Do catchers in Womens College Softball get scholarships? I heard that most go to pitchers.?

Question:

Answer:
I think that you may be right. Pitchers will usually have the most money compared to other position players. If a team has 7 full scholarships they are usually divided throughout the team. 10-14 might receive money. So there is money for everyone. "Walk ons" are usually a bonus for the program. But Catchers can get just as much if they are worth it to the team. I just finished up my Collegiate career at a DII where I had a scholarship. If you have a good arm and can hit you will play. I wasn't the starting catcher and I still got a good amount of money. hope that helps.
If you think about it, the majority of the scholarships would go to the picthers since they make up the majority of all teams, usually around 40-45% of the players. I know that there are 25 players on a major league baseball team and most teams carry 11 or 12 pitchers. With that being said, the remaining scholarships or 55%-60% would go to non pitching positions. If you're a catcher, then your catching skills alone might not be good enough to get you a scholarship. You might have to have a very good batting average, base running or other offensive skills in addition. I wish you the best of luck.
