If I owe one college 800.00 from the Pell Grant, can I change colleges and still get my stafford loan?
Question:
Answer:
there is a national student loan database (NSLDS) that contains every grant/loan you received (based on your social security number). if you received an overpayment at one school, chances are that the other school can check on that database to see your financial aid history. whether or not the new school cares is another thing.
if you can get the loan at this new school, you should pay back the overpayment on the pell grant.
and to the person who said that you don't have to pay back pell grants... that's not necessarily true. you HAVE to pay back grants if they paid you for the semester/quarter and you did not finish the course(s). granted, there is a date late in the semester/quarter that once you go over that date, you can keep money from the pell grant. sounds like the questioner did not pass this date before dropping his class.
You could ask a finiancial counselor at a school. I know when I left one school I owe them like $3000 and it has yet to effect my financial aid in this school, I even got the stattford loan and thats what I owe on at the old school I. however I dont think my pell grant went through at the time of me quiting. But isnt a pell grant something you Dont pay back Ever? Like I said Try to ask Someone in this field all the can say is yes or no. Good Luck.... School payments are so much a pain in the butt.
Ps try not to go for a "salliemae" Loan their interest rate is so high 29.4% somethink like that, They will charge double the what your asking just in interest.
Yeah...just make sure u change ur school code on the fafsa to the new school..they'll adjust it and send the SAR to ur new school
Grants don't need to be paid back though.I got Pell Grants and didn't pay a dime...are u sure thats what u got?
