Question:
I have over 15 years of experience in bookkeeping/accounting, however I was laid off from my job over over a year ago and have not been able to land anything worthwhile. Due to my loyalty to my employer, I never felt the need to learn Qkbooks, Excel or any other comp. skill. Now, the few good paying jobs and even the not so good require these skills. I took a beg. course in Qkbks. but was not satisfied with the end results. I enrolled twice to take beg. Excel, but both times the class was canceled due to lack of enrollment. I can't afford to go to college to take a full course. So, what do I do. Am I not getting hired due to my age (56), or because I lack these skills although I have 15 years experience in accounting. Can someone give me an answer to help me solve my problem.
Answer:
Try your local community college and look for the continuing education courses. They are usually 8 weeks (1 or 2 times a week) or less.
home school
Actually, the perception makes it seem more difficult, taking a little course is easier than the paper and pencil accounting. Do something with a local community college. etc. It is easier than what you have been doing !
