Should the U.S. government foot the bill for college?

Question:
More education should lead to higher income in most cases. If the government paid for four years of college and then got all the subsequent years of taxes from the higher income, wouldn't that lead to more money in areas where the government really needs it?

Answer:
I think college is definately too expensive. It should be based on the person's abilities- not their abilities and whether or not they can afford it.

I think that undergrad school's should be free or WAY WAY WAY cheaper, and you should have to pay for grad schools, because once you graduate from an undergrad school, you're able to get a good career and afford grad school.
no
In a word - no.
Yes, G.W Bush is a member of Illuminiti using Christianity as his power.
no
Should the people foot the bill for the U.S. government
NO! Then college would become as bad as the public shool system.
No. The goverment isn't our Santa Clause like so many think it is. We think they should take care of everything there is and guess who pays for it? As for the rich paying it in their taxes it would hardly touch the cost!
Sure. only if you are willing to pay back the time to the US Military in return.
No.
Are you suggesting that anyone with a college education should be on a higher tax code? What if you drop out, should you then pay half tax? What about people who choose not to go to college and instead work their way up the ladder, should they live tax free?
Your idea needs a bit more work
for sure
Does anyone understand the concept the Government does not "Pay" for anything. The Government spends the $ we as Tax payers give them!
So your question shoud be, should I pay for your kids College, and my own kids College, because someone else won't work two jobs to get thru College and take 5 years instead of 4 years to get thru it like I did?
I agree, Education will help the America and Everyone in it. But asking me to pay for my kid and your kid, when both can work their way thru? I can't buy that...
No, loans maybe but not grants.
The U.S. government pays for nothing. Hard working Americans paying taxes foot the bills.
If you are paying for your own education, you will have a more vested interest in the results. If someone else is paying, then it cost you nothing to fail.
Will society be required to keep paying until you succeed?

Perhaps a system where people spend their own money on higher education, succeed, and then enjoy the fruits of their labor with lower taxes. Kinda like the system we have now !
no
