Are there student loans that don't require a cosigner?

Question:
I'm a poor kid from a poor family. Everyone in my family - immediate and extended - has awful credit, so I went to college on scholarships and small government loans. My dad lost his job a year ago, so since then, my family made no payments to my school. Now they won't let me re-enroll until I pay them back. My school is an out-of-state private university that is too expensive, so I'm transferring to a instate public school. The only problem is that my school won't send my transcript until I pay them the $6344 that I owe. Does anyone know of a student loan that doesn't require a cosigner? My grades are great, I have a 3.8 GPA. I can't use any federal loans for prior semesters, so that's not an option. I tried scholarships, but all I do is work 2 jobs to make money for school, so I have no time for volunteering and all the other goody-goody crap scholarships love. Sorry if I sound bitter, but I've been out of school for a year, and I'm getting depressed. I have until Aug. to pay them :(

Answer:
Oh my---I feel your pain. I came to post a similar question and saw yours.

I've been trying to get a private loan for summer classes, and have been denied a bunch of times in the past week, because of either bad credit (ONE late car payment in December) or no enough credit (I don't do the credit card thing).

They all say I could be approved with a credit-worthy co-signer, but I don't have one. I'm an independent student who pays for EVERYthing. I left an abusive family behind, so there's no support there. As a result, I cannot even APPLY for federal aid, because I need my parents' info.

Unless my cat can be my cosigner, then I'm screwed. It's all VERY upsetting and frustrating. They make it VERY hard for college kids who are in a grey area like we are. I'm quite bitter, too. I wish I had suggestions for you, but I'm looking for the same. I tried Sally Mae (or whatever) too and was denied.

Just know that you aren't alone out there. There actually are a few poor, struggling college kids like you. I guess we should just hang in there..or sell drugs. KIDDING.

If you've managed to keep up that excellent GPA despite all your hardships, then my hat's off to YOU! I haven't been able to do the same, really. So KUDOS to you, for what's it's worth, for working so hard and making the grade. That's inspiring. :)

My son has a couple of college loans without cosigners . The interest rate is higher though. Good luck
There are a few out there but they have high interest rates. Try one these listed. These lenders offer loans without a cosigner and you don't have to have a credit history of your own to qualify. Your main problem may be how far back you can get a loan to cover a past due balance. Most lenders allow loan certification up to a year after the loan period but check with these lenders and good luck.
