wow..sounds like you're in a crunch...but i believe you SHOULD do the reading... know i sound like a geek, but seriously...do what the teachers assigned.it'll help you with that 4.0 GPA. You don't have to like it, trust me I've read plenty of books i didn't enjoy..but here's a trick i like to do ...don't read in your room. ride a bike, walk, or skateboard or whatever to a nearby park, lake, or (if you're lucky and live near the ocean) the waves. Sit down and relax for a few minutes and soak up life. Then, remember that feeling and start to read. Don't give yourself a page number to stop at, read a bit (50+ pages) and then reward yourself by thinking about life, love and laughter. Maybe even bring your MP3 player and listen to Better Days and think about when you'll be done with school and doing what you want with life...

Dude, what does advanced english required reading have to do with world history!? Did you get sidetracked? Oh yea, on the books, I know you hate reading, but buck it up. You're going to have to do lots more if you're headed to college. Would be nice to know what the books are though.
I had summer reading for advanced english and my friend told me about 2 books I had to read for advanced world history and they're FAT! I have many more things to do than just sit in my room reading during the SUMMER! Do you think I should get out of my world history class? I want to raise my GPA; I want to get a scholarship to college. I was in regular world geography last year (It was extremely easy. Maybe I had the easiest teacher. Who knows?) and never got told about it and it wasn't posted on the school website. In addition, I had to go through waaaaaaaaaay too much trouble to get the assignment for my english.
