My car died, I need a new one, what should I look for? I'm a dirt broke college kid!?
Question:
During that time, my mother was in a car accident, and her car was totaled. So, since my car was there and she was paying for the insurance anyway, she just used mine.
Well, a couple of days ago, it DIED. From what she told me, it had black smoke pouring out of it, and the engine was covered in black ****. The mechanic said that it was due to somebody putting in "recycled antifreeze". To repair it, it would take something like $800 worth of work.
My parents said that it isn't worth that amount of money, since even if I were to trade it in, I'd still only get about $400 for it. They decided that since they were the ones using it when it died, they would give me $500 for it.
Can I get a car for that amount of money? I've already made plans to move away from home, and I NEED a car. I don't really care how old or fancy it is (My dead car was a 1987 Camry), just that it will run.
Answer:
