EFC is 0 but award from college says we pay more than the amount when we had efc of 8000?

Question:
Last year we had an efc of 8000 this year 0 but the award letter from the college indicates we pay some more than last year. We just received the award letter and I am very upset. The cost of the tuition has also gone up. anyone know what we should do?

Answer:
You should not be paying ANYTHING with EFC 0. By definition (Expected Family Contribution) EFC is how much you are supposed to pay. Your school has definitely fumbled. Take it up with them, and if they dont listen report them to the Department of Education. Good old uncle scam doesnt like his federal money getting swindled.
You need to call the fin aid office. They may have made a mistake, as they often do. Your EFC of 0 should have made you eligible for grants and federal loans, including the full amount of the pell grant (which was around $4,000ish a year).
Something is definitely wrong there. If you have an EFC of zero, you qualify for all kinds of grants and things. Call the financial aid office, or better yet, visit it! Check out www.ed.gov for more info and to take backup with you if needed.
maybe, they verified you and found some information was not included on the fafsa.
