Question:
I've been playing soccer all my life, I played most of my years for the town and a about two years of travel, I got into highschool and I tried out the team and I was so good they asked me to come back and asked a friend of mine if I could come back when I had decided I did'nt want to play for the school. I played one more year of soccer for my town and then I finally went back and played soccer for my school. Now I want to take a year off and coach my little brother's team, even though I will practice with my other brother to stay in shape. My dad says I should keep playing soccer, and that I won't go back to playing on a team if I take this year off, but I plan to go back and play for my college. Is it a bad idea? Also, I want to learn to box along with three jobs, watching a baby, doing scholarship essays for college, and I think it will be easier if I did'nt have to practice for three hours everyday.
Answer:
Noooo, taking a year off of highschool athletics is bad, and will hurt your chances of playing in college. I say listen to your dad, and try to fit in the time to play this year and continue your soccer career. Good Luck with everything.
Listen to your father. If you want to play soccer in college, you need to stay on your high school team. You can still coach your little brother's team; but you should sign-on as an assistant coach, not a head coach. Try and slow down a bit, ok?
dont take a year off
If you want to play in college you should continue to play in high school. Taking a year off is not a good idea because it will be so hard to go back to constantly working out and all that is involved with playing. If you take that year off, you will find that it is easier to just decide "Well, I don't have time to work out today, I will just do it tomorrow", and tomorrow may never come. It will also be a bit easier to get those scholarships you want if you are still playing soccer, it looks better because they see that you are more responsible and the money will not be wasted. Plus, you are more likely to get noticed and have colleges offer you athletic scholarships if you do not take a year off. Take your dad's advice and do not try to take a year off, it will be way too hard to go back.
