Can you'll give me some agencies that my daughter can apply directly for a college grant or scholarship?
Question:
Answer:
An application can't be "in process" and "denied" at the same time; they are mutually exclusive. Either the application is in process, or it has been denied. Not both.
FAFSA will use the income of the applicant, plus that of the parents if the child has been declared as a dependent on either parent's tax returns in the last 2 years.
Just because you don't think you make a lot of money means nothing to Sallie Mae, or whoever is providing the sutdent loan. Either the applicant and her parents make too much to qualify for a loan, or they don't make enough to qualify, per Sallie Mae's own guidelines. In other words, they use their guidelines, not yours, in determining if you "don't make a lot of money".
A positive bit about FAFSA and Sallie Mae: they will still provide loans for at least a part of her tuition, provided her and you and your wife are within their limits. So, it's not an issue of all or none in terms of loan amounts.
Ideas for your daughter getting college paid for:
* Have her get a job and start saving her money.
* Have her go to school and have a job to pay for school. Yes, she will have time for both.
* Have her go to a community college for a year or two (cheaper), and have her work to pay the tuition and save for tuition for a state or private school the last 2 years of college so she doesn't settle for a degree from a community college.
* Enter ROTC
* Have her ask her high school guidance counselor. Really!
* The United Way
* 4-H or Future Farmers of America
* If she is involved in any sort of extra-curricular activity at her high school, have her ask the faculty member for grant opportunities (Cheerleading, German Club, Marching Band, etc.)
* The library has entire books devoted to available grants. Example: People can get a $500 grant just for being left handed.
* Stay away from those Matthew Lesko books. They are worthless.
* If she has already been accepted to a university, and she knows what major she wants, have her contact that deapartment for grants and programs.
Good luck!

www.scholarships.com
www.finaid.com
Both websites have tons of scholarships to apply for.
www.fasa.gov, start with this, tell your kid to get good grades, the school will then offer scholarships (a list) for a need based scholarship. I went back to college, single mom of two and did well on financial aid and scholarships. I have my bachelors in education, now, I just need a job. If I can do it anyone can do it!
