Should I get a Job during my highschool years or spend my spare time no community service?

Question:
I mean, basically financially is it probably smarter to just try to get in some activities that could help me get some scholarships for college and be poor through most of highschool, or just go ahead and get some minimum wage job at a restaurant or whatever...
thanks!

Answer:
Unless you want to impress someone and put in on an applicaiton for college...go for the money. You'll need it.
Both! They are equally important for the reasons that you discussed.
Do both. Why not.
by far the community service would look much better on your applications than some job where youre not doing anything special while making peanuts.
If you are interested in the Human Services field you would have a better reference when you graduate from College if you have participated in "community service work at a nonprofit" It is good to have the money but it is better to show the experience. Some non-profits will help you learn how to apply for funding through grants and funds not typically tapped by students. It worked for me! I didn't pay for any of my education and when I graduated I went right into a supervisory position. Besides I like helping people.
If you can live through being "poor" as you say it would benefit you in the long run to do community service and help yourself get scholarships for college.

Working is going to drag you down and not allow you the time you need to study and keep those grades up. You can do community service projects on the weekends.

Surely, if you are trying to better yourself won't your parents help out with finances. I would if it were mine.

Is it possible to get babysitting jobs. They pay top dollar per hour these days.
I try to do the one that would help you decide or confirm your choice of career. Work in a restaurant if you plan to have a career in that field, do volunteer work if you plan on being a doctor, see if you could help your neighbors and make some little money by watching their kids if being a teacher sounds fun for you. Use your time to have fun, money and help you confirm your choice of career!
You can get a job if you need one, but if you don't need one enjoy being poor and having fun. There are a lot of scholarships for college out there. Just ask your guidance counselor and they can help you. You can apply to more than one at the same. Also depending on your ethnic background they might be more than one to apply for. But really enjoy your high school years, because college and studying is not that easy.
my son goes to school, plays football and attends every practice and works on weekend days leaving saturday and sunday evenings free. of course he also is active in drama to. and he still finds plenty of time to play final fantasy hours on end. haha
