What is the purpose of a sport scholarship?

Question:
Can somebody please give me some information on sport scholarships?
How do you get the sport scholarships?
When you get it from a certain college and if you accept it, does that mean you have to play on that team of the sport at that certain school?

Thanks to all who answer!

Answer:
They are just one of many ways for people to get free or partially paid rides in college.

You generally have to apply for them while in high school and playing the sport for which you are applying, or if you are really really good, they might come trying to recruit you.

If you get such a scholarship and accept it, you do have to play on the team for that school, in order to maintain the funding.
You play sports for the college, they pay for some (and in some cases all) of your tuition to said university.

Check to make certain there is no injury clause in it (If you cannot play sports, the scholarship ends)
a sports scholarship is given to those who excell at sports. colleges send out scouts to recruit new players. if they're good enough, they will more than likely receive a full scholarship so they can play college ball. and yes, if one school is paying for you to play then you have to play for them or pay your own way through school.
i am not possitive but this is what i think.
you get a sports scholarship most of the time that is if you want to play that sport on a professional level, or somethin like that. i don't think that you have to play for the school that you get the scholarship at but it might be good practice. like i said i am not positive but that is what i think.
A sports scholarship is as it implies, a scholarship to play sports at the school that is recruiting the person as long as that person maintains set goals to be eligible for the scholarship still, like certain GPA, behavior, etc...

Sports scholarships aren't just handed out, recruiters from colleges will come and scout-watch-player sthat they believe will be good additions to whatever sport it is for that team at their school. If they decide this is a person that they want, then a sports scholarship may be offered for the person to attend the college free of tuition charges as long as you do not get the scholarship withdrawn by the school for whatever reason.

ach school only has so many to give each year per sport, so recruiters really do a lot of watching and stat checking before offering just to make sure this person can play at that next level after High School.

An important thing to note is that only Division II and Division I schools may offer scholarships, Division III schools do not have that option.

And obviously, if you get offered and agree to the scholarship then you will have to play whatever sport it was offered for as a member of the team of the school that offered it and you accepted.

Hope this clears it up some.
a sports scholarship is a scholarship given by an institution to budding sports athletes.
Yes, if its given by the college, then you have to play for its team. But if its given by some govt organisation, then you can just keep playing.
The point of this scholarship is that the burden of expenses on sports equipment and training is very high, so this scholarship eases the burden for paying your fees.
Usually, a scholarship is given for those who excel in academics but this one is given for those who excel in sports
There are many scholarships. NCERT provides a good number. Visit www.ncert.nic.in
Visit the college's website for further details
Sport scholarships are meant to act as an insentive for strong players to attend a school, or to give an athlete an opportunity to play at a higher level even if they originally couldn't afford to go to school.

Most athletes looking to attend certain schools will send out letters of interest late in their Junior year of high school. If they are really talented the schools will find them. If you accept the scholarship you have to play and usually meet other requirements. If you don't then you loose the free ride.

The only schools that can offer scholarships are Division 1 and 2. Anything lower and althetic scholarships don't exist.
