Masters in counseling?

Question:
I have a bacherlors. I just started a position as an advisor/counselor and I really like it. However to be a full time counselor I need a masters. Which i was planning on anyway so this is a good opportunity. However I need a good school that provides a counseling program. Also any recommendation on either school counseling or social work counseling?? and any masters programs available online that is reputable?? thanks alot

Answer:
If you want a counseling degree you should go for that if you want a social work degree go for that. Social work is broader than just counseling. Social work views counseling as one skill set, Counseling views it as the whole thing. Be careful of online programs that may be "accredited" as a whole university but not by individual program. This would be an issue for licensure which you will need. In social work look for a program that has a certificate in school social work. There is only one CSWE online accredited social work through the Univ of FL. DA
If you are going to be a school advisor/counselor, you will want to pursue an education degree in counseling. The social work option is for private or county/state/ social work counseling. Target what it is that you really want to do.
maybe you could go and speak to others doing what you want and ask them how they got where they are now .
