Question:
This year I will be an advisor of a hall of a dorm on our school campus. We have to come up with programs that will interest the residents in the dorm. I have some ideas, but I would like to hear some of your ideas as well. Any would be helpful, but remember to be reasonable and within a budget. Some of my examples are: a meet/greet night, movie night, inviting a speaker, going out playing volleyball, ice cream party, current events forum and exercise at the gym as a group one night. Those are a few of my thoughts. Tell me what you think.
I wouldnt plan out too far in advance what you want to do. When you have your first or second floor meeting make up a questionaire to figure out their interests. Alot, of your ideas should stem from that. You are only given a limited amount of funds (usually about $50 a semester). Although I ran a male floor with the attention span of no more then 5 minutes, there are certain topics you have to have programs for; Sex, drugs/alcohol, school related, diversity and "socials".
Most RAs will come up with a program a week in advance on the fly. The most important thing is to keep your programs as unbiased as possible. By putting any "spin" on a program you may alienate other people on your floor without even realizing it.
Just dont let them get to you lol. I get suites this comming year so hopefully its more fun. Good luck.
