A question for any Health/Sex Education teachers out there...?
Question:
I am in the process of registering for classes and I can't get ahold of the advisor for the Health Edu. program. I can easily add Human Sexuality to my schedule, but I have no idea if it will be taught along the subject of "health". What was your experience?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Answer:
most of what you will need to teach will be right in the text book . . . you could probably add a little here and there, but of course it would have to be a part of the curriculum and also approved by the principal of your school . . . it could be helpful to you to have the extra background on the subject, but I don't really think that it would hurt you any if you didn't take it . .
As far as I know, the health textbook given to you when you teach Health will include a chapter about sex. Don't worry about it.
I took Human Sexuality in college and I learned some interesting things.
One word of advice, really find out what it's like to be a teacher. I taught for 3 years and couldn't take it anymore. No matter which school, the bad kids can drive you nuts and you have to do a lot of paperwork. Ask a lot of questions when you do your student teaching or observation.
I'm not your target audience, but I just thought I should tell you that 30s_girl does not speak for the entire educational community. The early advice was sound and even the "make sure you know what you're getting into" part is valid. Her own experience of being driven out by the "bad kids" and paperwork was just that- her experience. Many of us are still at it and still loving it two or three decades down the trail. It's not for everyone, but if it IS for you, no other career could possibly be as fulfilling.
30's-gal doesn't have a clue as to what she's saying!
Her advice is wrong!
Im not a tacher for health education, but I know this because i once use this for our seminar in mindanao. Yes we can combine health education and sexual education. But you should consider your audience and make sure you have a explanation for every words from this topic. It advisable that search for any experience person and tetimony for this matter. The bad ang good side should be tackle and make sure you give them an oath to think twice before doing it.
i think sex education worsten everything including shame ... shame is gone
