I'm looking for monologues to audition for BADA (British American Drama Academy)?
Question:
Answer:
But will you remember me when you are famous?
Oscar Wilde's play "the importance of being earnest" is really funny and has alot to do with playing with the wrods. use of of Lady Bracknell's monologues. If you chose a contemporary humourus monologue, then your plays and genres of shakespeares plays are narrowed. Othello is a good play and is not as well know as like the fmaous "Romeo and Juileit" try staying away from famous shakespear unless you can bring a totaly new differnet twist to it.
a good commical shakespear play to look for a good monologue in is "Much ado about nothing". There are romantic scences, verbal batter, comody, and some trajedy. very good play and I would focus maybe on Beatrice for a monologue. not only does she talk often, but she often fights with Benedict, and expresses quite a bit of passion in many areas of her life. look for one when she is talking to benedict about Hero after she has fainted int eh church.
God bless you and good luck.
K.K.
I've always been partial to Portia's "Quality of mercy" speech from "Merchant of Venice," which would make a nice serious complementary speech to perhaps something from "Lady Windemere's Fan" or "Earnest." Many good speeches in "Glass Menagerie," both for Laura and Amanda. I wonder how BADA feels about John Osborne these days? I don't think Bernard Shaw works too well for auditions, as great as he is. What about Lillian Hellman? Something from "The Little Foxes" or "Another Part of the Forest," or maybe "The Children's Hour?"
shakespeare is good
