My auto insurance lapsed and dmv found out about it I never received the initial warning letter.?

Question:
I guess in the first warning letter they give you a choice to either pay $50 or turn in the license tags...but the only letter I received was the one saying they were going to revoke my license plate so I requested a hearing...what can I say to the officer when I go...I never received the first warning letter because I believe it was mailed to my previous address this is so freaking fustrating ! I need my car darnit! And I don't want to rent a car cuz I could do something else with that money! Like pay bills!

Answer:
If your mail got sent to the wrong address they are not going to care. Sorry.

There is not much you can other then you will pay your insurance right away.

If you get your car insurance re-instated by the time you have your hearing then I think they will not make you pay the $50 .

Good Luck.,
sucks to be you.
You should have thought about this happening and not let your insurance lapse. Responsible people pay the insurance on time and do not have to wait to receive a warning letter in the mail to warn them. In some states you do not receive a letter. You get your license suspended. Do you think the officer is going to listen to "I didn't receive my letter of warning?"
They figure if you are old enough to drive ,
You are old enough to remember the adult rules, like insurance.
The "I didn't get the warning letter" tells them you are too immature to drive and they may totally suspend you.
Better to tell them you had some medical bill that was too much or something THEN never do that screw up again because they do figure if you can't keep up the insurance you should be taking the bus.
