Auto insurance coverage?

Both my grandmother and myself are on my car's title, and it is paid off. I have full coverage insurance on it, but she is not on my policy. She doesn't have an insurance policy because she rarely drives and can't afford it. If she is driving and is involved in a wreck, no matter who's at fault, will everything be covered?

Very good question. With most "preferred" companies in Colorado (I'm not sure about other states), anyone driving the insured vehicle with your permission and not conducting business, has coverage. Check with your insurance company to find out for sure.

If you both live in the same house you may have problems, she should be a named insured or named excluded from the policy. If she is not in the policy, they are not required to pay your claim, due to misrepresentation.

Nope, sorry. Insurance covers YOU driving your car, not someone else. Most of the time, insurance will also cover YOU driving someone else's car, but not someone else driving your car.

Nate W is right. She would be covered driving your car, but if you live in the same household you should have her added as an occasional driver to you policy. It will probably have a small effect on your premium. She would not need a separate insurance policy to drive your car, insurance follows the car not the driver. Call your agent and tell them the situation, they should be able to help you.
