Insurance rate?

Question:
Hi, in the summer i'll be driving soon. Can anybody tell me how much I would have to pay to be insured for 6 months by Farmers? I'm 17, and I'm not eligible for the Good Student discount. I heard that my insurance rate would be cheaper if my parents add me to their policy. I'll probably be driving a 1990-1997 Mazda Miata MX-5. Also, what's a good, cheap auto insurance company do you guys recommend for teenagers?

You can get compare all insurance for the better rate out there. Farmers could be more expersive than you thought. So compare other insurances could save you from $100 to $400!
do that cause if u r added to there policy if u miss a payment they have u covered thats one for the parents
Do you have three jobs? If not...better update that resume.
There's absolutely no way for any of us to tell you how much it's going to be for you to get insurance with Farmers. You need to call Farmers yourself and ask them for a price quote. The price will change depending on: location, EXACT model of the vehicle, credit history, and any number of a thousand different things. But, just FYI -- a Miata is going to be EXPENSIVE, because it's a two-door sports vehicle driven by a young male. If I had to guess, you're probably looking at $250 or more a month for insurance. The price probably won't drop substantially until you turn 21 (and then 25), or get married. If you want a lower payment you need to get a safer vehicle for a teenager. (Minivan!) You also need to GET THOSE GRADES UP to get your Good Student Discount. Even if you don't have it now, you can get it later. Also ask whatever insurance company you go with if they have a "safety driving course" that would lower your premiums. Usually these give a significant savings.

Also: don't look for "cheap" auto insurance. Look for RELIABLE auto coverage. You're young, and all you care about is price right now. But when you wreck that vehicle because you were stoned out of your mind, you're going to want a company who's not going to quibble with you about your medical costs and replacement costs. Think about your future, not your present :)
As a former Farmers agent I would suggest that you talk to your Farmers agent about Young Driver Discount. It is a funny thing - you watch 15 minute video on safe driving at the agent's office. Then agent writes a certificate on your name. And that certificate alone gives you 30% discount on the top of other discounts you get as member of the household (multi-car, home, professional). Discuss the details with your agent - conditions might differ from state to state.
