Should the legal age to drive be bumped up to 18 years old?
Question:
Answer:
The only people crying about this being unfair are teenagers. Let them whine, but raise the age to 18.
No.
HELL NO THIS IS NOT FAIR! i'm turing fifteen in a month and then i have a whole year to wait to get my permit and what not and its not fair! they should atleast make the cut off like 1991 for it to be fair!
NO!! Kids who CAN drive should be ALLOWED to drive. waiting til 18 sucks.!
Yes - most teenagers don't really understand the responsibility of driving at 16. Some do, but not all.
Bumping the age up to 18 will not change anything except for affecting the teenagers who need to work (thus, drive)to help their families.
Insurance prices are not high just because of 16 and 17 y/os. Actually, statistics have shown in the past that more elderly adults and men in their 20s have accidents than teenagers. So how about that?
Now ask me if I think the drinking age should be lowered to 18 - answer is yes. If you're old enough to die for your country, you're old enough to have a beer. 'Nuff said.
I think that the age should be raised to 18 to cut down on the number of fatal accidents. Teens have a feeling of invulnerability and like to show off to their friends as they drive. This leeds to many auto accidents. As the tend to speed, this leeds to many FATAL accidents.
no, driving is very easy if you're responsible. I learned to drive when i was 12 years old although i could't LEGALLY drive until i was 16. come on, kids have to have as much independence as they can at that age. As much freedom and responsibility as they are allowed. If you take that away, it's just one step closer to making them think they can't do much. and let's face it, they can not do too much as it is until they're 18.
I didn't drive until I was 17 because I had to start a job and pay for a car. It was hard to get around though because I lived in the country - 20 minutes away from town and there is no public transportation. Relying on family for rides was a pain. I think it should depend on the person. People could look at grades, the need, if they are responsible and if they are able to pay for car/insurance. (I had to pay for everything myself, including gas)
Sure. I would definately not mind if the government raised the legal driving age. Nothing but accident prone children under 18 anyways. OR give permits to the 15 year olds, then they can get their license when they turn 18. 3 years of behind the wheel would be good for them.
YES!
I think people should stop driving all together. This would all have to start with our government. WE NEED MASS TRANSPORTATION IN MAJOR CITIES. It should be a requirement for every cities/counties over 100,000 people.
And honestly young people should not do be able to drive unless they work over a certain number of hours a week. All they do is cruise around anyways and cause problems/waste gas/ and look stupid.
The problem with young drivers having more accidents will not be changed by raising the driving age. It is not age so much as it is a lack of experience that causes these drivers to have more collisions. If you allow 16 year olds to drive, at least in theory, parents can set some limits on them. (No driving at certain times of the day, limits on where they can drive) If they have to wait until they are 18 (which is legally an adult) the parental control is limited at best.
