Lapse in auto coverage?

Question:
We went through a really hard time a while back and had a 3 month lapse in auto insurance coverage. My husband was busted driving with no insurance and expired registration. I've tried several companies but no one can offer me insurance coverage. What can I do? We have a car that is still financed that would require full coverage per the agreement. I'm freaking out because he has to go to court and I was hoping to have all the papers in order before then but it's proving more difficult than I thought.

Answer:
Most likely since you guys went for 3 months with a lapse in coverage, you are considered more high risk. You might want to just try a high risk insurance company - like eastwood or brystol west (depending on where you are at) - you should still be insurable - but it might cost you a bit more. Do some more research online. The problem may be your husband - does he have a bad driving record? You may be able to get insurance on the vehicle for you if you list your husband as an excluded driver (therefore when he drives there would be no coverage), but you need to do this soon - it is extremely risky to 1. have no insurance, and 2. to have no insurance AND have the car financed - because as you said, it is in your contractual agreement that you carry full coverage.
I had a similar situation. Keep trying until you find someone that will cover you but you may have to pay the entire year's premium up front. That's what I had to do. Good luck!
