I think the skip day is over hyped. I think that the day will come and go and other than news coverage of protesters, we won't even notice. ALL illegals should go home. I don't care if they are from Ireland, India, Siam, or Mexico. If you are here illegally you have cut in line in front of someone who wants to come here the legal way. NO WAY should anyone be rewarded for doing that. Rewarding illegal immigration will only encourage more illegal immigration. The ones legalized will no longer work for cheap wages which will open the door for new illegals, who will expect the same, "citizen status" in time.
I HAVE TOLD THE MANAGERS HERE IN MY HOTEL AND RESTRAUNT, WHOEVER DOES NOT SHOW UP ON MONDAY DOES NOT HAVE A JOB ON TUESDAY AND MARK MY WORDS THAT IS NO BULLSHIT!!!
I am Hispanic "legally" I do not think this skip day is going to work, the absenteeism will not be as large as organizers expect, it will not be big enough to be noticeable, it will come across as a failure and all it is going to accomplish is to put people barely hanging on, to lose their jobs. I do not believe in this arm-twisting policy, when you cross the border illegally you know there is a chance you can get caught, so why so much whining now?
I saw on the news today that Tyson, Cargill & Boardwalk (or something like that) Foods are all going to have a "slow day" on May 1st. Tyson said it would shut down most of it's plants on May 1st due to lack of manpower.
I certainly hope the Police and Immigration are ready for May 1st! I can't understand why they don't show up and cart them all back. Then if they want to enter this country, they can do so LEGALLY!! Then they can also pay taxes and their own health benefits etc. If people want to live in this country than they need to do it by starting out entering this country legally and be willing to help support this country by paying taxes and not being a drain on the legal citizens of this country who do pay taxes. Why they think they are privileged and should be allowed to commit a crime by entering this country illegally, and be allowed to remain in this country is any ones guess. How fair is that to all the immigrants who have followed the laws and entered this country legally? I am so sick of hearing how Americans won't work the jobs that the illegal aliens will work. That is a bunch of CRAP! Illegal aliens are not harder workers than any one else! They work those jobs because they are the only jobs that they can get as illegal aliens. Americans won't work those jobs for the pittance that the illegal aliens are forced to work for. They wouldn't work for that pay either if they were here legally and could stand up for themselves. People want to believe that we are racists because they then have an argument for what we have to say. They can't fight us with logic, because we are the ones being logically and fair. I am very sorry that they can't make a better life for themselves in their country, but maybe instead or protesting in this country they should protest in their own country and force their government to listen to them and demand changes in their own country. Bottom line though is..If they want to live and work in the United States of America, than they need to enter this country legally and work in this country and support this country by paying their share of taxes. I have no problem with them doing things the legal way.
To say that MANY or MOST of the illegal aliens are paying taxes is bull! Yes there are some, but that doesn't change the fact that they entered this country illegally!

Let em' boycott & make the biggest mistake they could ever make!! Not to mention Dumb as well! It's not a racist thing, and if they want to say that or use that in any way, then they want an excuse, any excuse, to use to be able to stay here and granted Amnesty. If thy really want to be citizens here then they should pay taxes like everyone else does!! They have no argument or jurisdiction to protest the very reason they jumped over our border illegally to work here in the US and feed their family's off our tax paying dollars!.
I'm looking forward to May 2nd. I'm going to laugh my a*s off when they go to work and their employer says "You're Fired".

I just want to say That MOST illegal Immigrants Do Pay Taxes They Just Don't claim them in April like you all do. Some do have License and They do have insurance. I am with the Boycott on MAY 1St... I believe in the right for ALL people No matter where you are from or what Color or $ex you are. And why don't you all Stop and think, That if they could get papers or Enter legally then they WOULD, But the Fact is they cant Cuz this F'ing Country can like terrorist in and let them Fly our plane and crush them where they want too, But Refuses do HELP the REAL people That Make a F'ing difference in our Country.

"Jobs that Americans won't do" is a lie. Their are thousands of people here where I live would love to go back to work. Regardless of what the job is.

I am white and kskipping work fight along with them all. I am a supporter of hard working people like them. And Im married to one. ;)
I don't see this event really making an impact, because most of these folks genuinely fear job loss and will do what they have to do to keep themselves in good stead with their employers.
In the restaurant I'm consulting for right now, we opted to deal with May 1 in our own manner. We talked to each of the four (legal, with papers) Mexican employees who would normally be working on a Monday and asked them if they would like the day off to support their friends. Two of them wanted to work because they didn't want to lose the hours, one of them asked for May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) off instead, and one took us up on the offer.
Personally, I think it would be very interesting to see a "day without Mexico" that was total in its participation. I think that America at large has no idea how much work occurs behind the scenes with these folks, and it would be great, for just one day, to put things in quantifiable terms for all of us to see. Alas, I do not see it happening.
Do I think anyone should drive unlicensed or uninsured? Do I think employers should hire undocumented workers and create a temptation so large that Mexicans are willing to risk death to get here? Of course not. Please know, though, that the majority if the fence-jumpers, as workers, are still having payroll taxes coming out of their checks and are then ineligible to file for a tax return like you and I are, so they're often paying MORE than their natural-born counterparts in taxes.
If you're looking to put anyone's feet to the fire, choose the employers who opt to hire people of illegal status and/or pay under the table. These are the folks who are really breaking the law.
If you could sneak into French-Speaking Quebec, work as a dishwasher for a year, live with six of your friends in a 2 bedroom apartment, send enough money home to build a new mortgage-free house for your family, and come home a year later...would you do it? By creating an employment arrangement this tempting and rewarding to these folks, the stage has been set to make the decision a no-brainer for able-bodied people who want better things for their families.
So, instead of setting up a hard-core audit of all employers in this country, we choose to spend a zillion dollars on a wall at the border. Who did they think they were going to hire to do the manual labor? Sheesh.
It is not only undocumented people who will support the boycott and the protest but also MANY LEGAL people. You seem to not really know this.
And how can a undocumented person have a license if the u.s. government will not give it to people that don't have papers? So don't blame them for driving without one, because they can't get one.
