I have a question on an Allstate Auto Claim?
Question:
Answer:
You don't pay your deductible to the insurance company - basically the insurance company will cut you a check for the amount of the damages, less your deductible.
As for your auto and homeowners deductibles/claims.
Auto - will cover the damaged door lock/door, and anything attached to the vehicle - stereo, subwoofer.
Homeowner's coverage - will cover anything not attached - CD's, laptop. Now, your coverages will have limits - so it may not be wise to file the homeowner's claim, and yes your deductible will be applicable.
What you should do abou the laptop - is talk to your employer - see if they have insurance for this type of protection - so you don't have to pay out of your pocket for the laptop.
I can't say for sure, but since no one else has answered yet I guess I will throw in my thoughts.
All I do know is that my insurance agent always asks if I have anything else I need to add to my policy (auto insurance), like speakers, stereo, wheels, whatever. Basically the only thing covered is my car, stock. If I add anything to it, I also have to add it to my insurance policy.
As for covering the laptop, or other personal items, in the vehicle, I really don't know for sure. But it makes sense to me that they wouldn't cover it, and I have heard that before- that you need to go through your homeowners insurance. I guess because that item is really a "household" item, part of your personal (although it was work in this case) belongings that would normally be at home and would be covered under that policy.
So you would pay the 500 to have the damage to your vehicle fixed, and then the 1000 through the homeowners insurance to cover the loss of the laptop and other personal items, which probably isn't worth it.
So again, I am no expert, but it does sound correct according to things I have read and heard.
Your auto insurance will cover the damage caused by the perps, and anything that was a factor item. Anything that is aftermarket may not be covered under your auto policy unless a seperate coverage is purchased for those items. Your auto policy also does not cover personal property. They are correct in that it would need to be claimed under your homeowners insurance. You are responsible to pay your deductible for each claim filed w/ each company
