Who is your homeowners' insurance company?

Question:
We are first time buyers, and naturally sought to ask our agent who holds our auto insurance policy. He's come up with a ridiculous rate because I plugged in the same data and came up with lower figures.
So, who is your home insurance company, and do you like them?
Oh, and if you find a good auto insurance quote from a company along with a good home insurance quote, can you cancel your current auto insurance policy (which lasts until Oct.) without penalties? We are with AllState.
Thanks!
Sure you should be able to cancel and get a prorated refund of the unused portion.

Shop around and talk with as many agencies as you have the time/energy to.

The rates can vary, and sometimes it is cheaper to do separate car and auto (even though company's offer combo discounts). You just have to "shop around."

I left my company of 10 years because they increased my auto 20+ percent for no apparent reason. I found a cheaper deal going to a separate homeowners insurance and car insurance place. Can't really "name" names here for the sake of violating Yahoo policy.
Yeah, I can't NAME the company, but they are "on my side"
I had my car insurance with them for years and years. So then I got the "long term" discount. When i bought my home, i got my homeowners through them and I have the multi-policy discount. They are known to be just a little higher, but they treat thier customers really really well. Thier adjusters are prompt and fair.
With my discounts, they are about as expensive or not cheaper than having seperate agencies.
Yeah, you can cancel your car insurance, like he said above.
Good luck and congrats on your new home!!
I've been with my Good Neighbor insurance company for both auto and home for almost 10 years. I had the auto for two years prior to buying our home, so it never occurred to me to go anywhere else.

I'm satisfied with the service and rates, reduced due to our multiline discount. I'm guessing it probably is a bit more expensive than if I'd gone somewhere else, but peace of mind is priceless.

If you do find a carrier that gets you a better auto rate, you can cancel with Allstate at any time and they'll refund the prorated remainder of the premium.
