Add a driver?

Question:
I just called my insurance company to find out what the charge would be to add my fiance to my auto insurance policy and they informed me that there's NO additional charge to add a driver, provided his motor vehicle report comes back clean. I thought that was great!

Then I hung up with them and started thinking about it and I'm starting to worry that maybe I wasn't clear in what I wanted to do. Surely there MUST be an additional charge, no? I live in NJ. Can anyone help?

Answer:
No charge for adding just drivers. Companies insure cars not drivers. If you add his car then there will be a charge.

If he does not live with you and he does not drive your car regularly (to work every day for instance) then you do not need to add him. He is still able to drive your car once in a while without adding him. You can give anyone permission to drive your car and they are insured.

If he is young (under 24 or 25), has accidents or tickets, then yes there will be more charges.

Hope that helps.
