You need at least the minimum for liability. But in case you have an accident you need the medical coverage, even if you have private medical insurance because it covers all the people in the car and other autos involved. I personally think you need collision (cars easily damage) in this day and age as well as comprehensive (for vandalism). Plus I think to get the medical coverage you have to have at least comprehensive. For the minimal charge I would also suggest towing but not rental because most only cover $10 a day and not the entire cost nor for long periods of time.
If you pay by the month you will pay extra. Trying and pay twice a year and save a little you can spend elsewhere to boost coverage.
I have had State Farm since I started driving as well as my spouse. They have always been there when we needed them.
Remember the adage - pay now or pay later.
Ask your friends to recommend an agent. Listen to him, take his advice. It's not a one-size fits all situation. You want somebody who has been in the business for years.
