Auto insurance limits of liability ?
Question:
Answer:
I wouldn't go lower than 100/300...let's work it backwards-how would you feel if someone totalled your Escalade and had only 25K worth of insurance? See? You also have to take into account medical costs of someone you might hit. If you own a home I'd suggest 250/500 so you won't lose your house in a major accident.
If you have the means to increase it.. definately do so.
Think of it this way. you hit the back of one nice mercedes (lets say its 40,000) and you only have 25k coverage per car. well... your in trouble!
Ask your agent what kind of increase youd be looking at it and please.. if you have the means- go for it.
(take a look a few questions below at the kid who caused more damage then his policy covered.. not a pretty situation)
Do you own a home or other assets? If you do, what's the value? Whatever the value is is what your liability limits should be or HIGHER, and you may want to purchase a PUP policy as well.
Now, what about your property damage limits? $25/50 is for bodily injury only.
My suggest that you increase your limits on both cars. You do not say whether you own your home but if you do and your limits are too low there could be a lien put against it. Most state say 25/50 or 20/40 but I am guessing you have full coverage and if not you should but bottom line is you want to replace what gets damaged and you may not be able to with the limits you have.
