Can you purchase auto insurance in a state in which you don't live?
Question:
Answer:
You can but if you get pulled over or if you get into an accident you will get a huge ticket and you will not be covered.
No that is illegal. Rates are different in every state.
I'm an agent. Typically when you move from one state to another the "new" state allots you a certain period of time in which to obtain that state's driver's license and obtain that state insurance. The Dept of Motor Vehicles will eventually figure out that you don't live in MO but in the mean time do some insurance shopping and see what your best rates will be. Independent insurance agencies offer you more options than your direct markets like Nation Wide, State Farm, and Allstate.
As long as the car is registered in MO, you can keep your current insurance. Most insurance companies are national, or at least regional. It's a short drive down US 71 from MO to AR, if you are pulled over, it's no big deal. I work in Las Vegas, live in California, I have an Arizona Drivers license, and my car is registered, and insured in Arizona. The best thing I can tell you is insure, and register your car in the state that you are licensed to drive in.
If your MO license is still good, drive on.
