Mexican auto insurance for Americans?
Question:
Also if their service is good or bad compared to the other insurance companys when claims are made ?.
Answer:
good luck. most accidents accross the border are hit and runs or settled with some money on the spot. also, good luck finding someone with insurance. cheapest auto insurance is not the way to go. look into full coverage in case any of the above happens. i grew up in el paso, tx (border city)
I recently drove from Las Vegas to Costa Rica and found that NO American insurance company will insure you in Mexico, and you can understand why. When you get to the border to have your passport stamped, there will be an office for insurance while you are in Mexico. I was traveling through ( as fast as possible ) and had to pay about $100.00 for 5 days and check out of the country at the other end within that time or have my everything confiscated, including the vehicle. Very, very unfriendly place. The worst by far of all the Central American countries, and the police were the worst of the worst. If you have US plates, you WILL be stopped for some trumped up charge so that they can squeeze you for money. My advice.don't go! Never travel at night.avoid Mexico City like the plague!!
