I cancelled my auto insurance and they are charging me a cancellation fee, is there such a thing??
Question:
Answer:
Sure is, but you'd have to read the fine print of your original contract.
Most companies now sign you up for either a 12 or 24 mth contract, and if for whatever reason you cancel the contract during that period, you're charged a cancellation of contract fee.
Most of the time you won't know there is a contract period, it just happens when you sign the document.
Ring your insurance company and ask if there is a contract time limit.
Ask your state insurance commission. They can tell you what is legal and what is not.
i recently paid 35$ for one at progressive and then they sent me a check for .03 cents!
There must be if there charging you the fee. I notice a lot of companies now charge a fee for cancelling a contract. There is probably nothing you can do with these companies. It seems they get rich and we get poor but thats because our governments allow such things to happen.
There is if you signed up before your "contract" term was up...like if you purchased 6 months or 12 months at a time and cancelled before that time frame was up.
it all depends on your contract. it has to be stated on it in order for the company to charge you..
review your contract..
There will always be a fee for this, that or the other. These corporations should be upfront and put it in plain language and in plain sight and not hide it in counless paragraphs of legaleese for which you have to be a lawyer to make any sense of it.
Someone should propose a bill to Congress to make such contracts simple amd understandable.
I have spoken.
If there is a charge for cancelling it should be plain in your policy. Whenever you have questions about fair treatment by an Insurance Company that you are dealing with for any reason each state has it's own Insurace Commissioner and all you need do is contact them and they will investigate your situation for you, should you feel that you have received unfair treatment.
I've never heard of such a thing. I never had to pay any cancellation fees for insurance. I'd get on the phone and ask why they are charging it and how. Did you let them know you were cancelling? If you have an agent you may be able to get that waived.
