How many miles into mexico does a regular auto insurance cover?

Question:
i plan on traveling down there but am not sure if my insurance will cover me or if i should buy an extra one.

Answer:
usually it's 12miles in. but you still need mexican insurance b/c MEXICO DOESN'T accept your US insurance as proof. They require the mexican insurance and will not honor your id card. sorry. they want/need your money. just buy the mexican insurance at the border. it's usually pretty cheap.
good luck!
Zero
Always buy the extra. There are tons of places that sell it on the way into Mexico for a nominal amount, but it's worth it in the long run because I don't believe that any American insurance covers travel in Mexico.
about 1/2 tank of gas worth
Call them and ask. Each company is different. You may be covered up to 25 miles or none.
check your policy - that's the quickest way to find out --- or call the insurance agent
Call your insurance agent or company.
None most insurance compaines don't cover you out of the US. Don't take your car into Mex get a Taxi
Don't go, it's a waist of time. Living in the USA is the same as Mexico. All of the GOD DAMN Mexicans are moving here, why do you want to go their.
Zero. According to the AAA you need to arrange coverage through a Mexican insurance company, and AAA offices along the border can help you do this.
Your United States policy stops at the border.
Absolutely NO MILES AT ALL unless you have the insurance issued by some companies in Texas that specifically states it's good in Mexico and even that is only good for 25 miles from the border and, more typically, it's not any good outside a border town.

You will hear that you can buy Mexican insurance by the day, week, month, 6 months or yearly. Depending on how long you are going to stay south of the border, you may find it's cheaper to buy it for either 6 months or a year.

WHATEVER YOU DO... don't even THINK about driving in Mexico without insurance. If you go to Mexico without insurance and have any kind of incident at all, you could lose your car.

You do know about getting the tourist tags and FMT and paying the fees and the surity bond, I assume. It's also a REALLY good idea to get an International Drivers License otherwise you could get fined in some places in Mexico.
