Can I buy a car insurance but the car is not registered under my name?

Question:
My husband and me are separated, recently I received his message that he requested me to buy auto insurance individually, but the car is registered under his name.

Answer:
Not all carriers do so you might have to do some research. Your company will just have you sign a driver exclusion form stating they are not a covered driver of the vehicle. Now as a note the Registered owner is liable for any difference above the limits you select on your policy. Therefore, speak to your agent about listing them as a Additional Interest of the vehicle so that your company will help leagally protect them in regards to a suit.
You should be able to. I did it once when borrowing a friends motorcycle for an extended period of time. (motorcycle registered to him, insurance in my name)
Yes, there's no problem with it. I've sold several insurance policies where the owner of the vehicle is not the driver. Such as the child is in charge of the insurance, but the car is under the parents name. I've also done this for roommate situations and siblings.
