Do you have to have a driver's license to obtain auto insurance?

Question:

Answer:
Apparently not.

I know a very elderly woman (86). Her name is Joan. She has never driven in her life. Her husband died a few years ago. She kept the car after he died and she has it insured. I have seen the insurance card myself when I have driven her places. She has her daughter-in-law listed as the main driver on the insurance but the insurance is in Joan's name. She did not have any trouble getting the insurance. She has several different people take her places and she has them use her car so that she pays for the gas, oil, wear and tear, etc. The only thing the other people are giving up is a little of their time.

She has the car insured through State Farm.
Yes
some states require you to keep your auto insurance even after it is stolen so that it will be coverd in case they use and kill somebody!
Yes and No. Majority of all carriers will require for you to have a DL. Now many will allow you flexibility upon receieving one. Many carriers will start a policy for you and will usually give you 30 days to obtain a DL or it will canx and some provide you til you are up for renewal. Now depending on your situation there are some carriers that will allow for you to keep a policy with no DL what so ever because they are covering "Your Risk" even though it is illegal to drive. You are best dealing with a broker for this situation because they can be very felixible in this situation.
