How should I choose an insurance company for my homeowners insurance?

Question: What are some things I should look for within in? What are some important questions I should ask? I have checked with my auto insurance company, and they are a little high, so I am researching other companies, but want to know what I should look for.

If you look at companies that are different from you auto carrier, ask you you would get a discount for swwithing that policy. Many insurers give discounts for multiple policies.
