Adding a person to an auto title for insurance purposes?

Question:
My father just purchased a car in his name that I will be driving and paying for.

I am an adult not living with him.

I was told that I would need to be on the title in order to get insurance coverage for this vehicle.

Do you know if you are able to add someone to a title if you are not the free and clear owner of the vehicle?

Answer:
No, you do NOT need to be on the title! Whoever told you that is totally lacking in anything resembling a clue!

You do not need to get insurance for the vehicle. It's your father's car, he needs to get insurance. The policy needs to list you as an authorized driver since you will be the primary operator of the vehicle.
I'm pretty sure your father's insurance company will, for a price, put you on the insurance policy as a covered driver of this vehicle. My daughter has our car out of state and she is on our policy but her name is not on the title. Perhaps it depends on the insurance company and coverage. I don't think you have to be on the title in order to be covered by insurance
as far as eye no,,,all u have to have is to be on the insurance police it's self,,,that covers the driver and the auto,,,,automatically,,,,in pa where eye have a notary,,,this satifies the title and insurance
The legal owner is the one who will receive the check from the insurance company if a claim is made against the comp or collision lines of the insurance policy, but the registered owner is the one who is responsible financially if the car gets in a wreck.
