I have auto insurance through Gieco (NY)...if my father, whom is not on my policy, but has his own insuranc?

Question:
e through a different carrier.is my vehicle still covered if he borrows it and, god forbid, gets into an accident?
how would that work?...what would happen?...do i have to add him as a possible driver?
HELP please

Answer:
As long as he has permission to drive your veh he would be covered under you insurance. In most cases when someone is driver another persons veh, and they are involved in an accident in that veh, the coverage from that veh would cover the accident. Now if your coverage on that veh was not enough to pay for any damages, or injuries for the other party. The insurance company may go after your fathers insurance company to cover the diff. The only time your coverage from your veh follows you to another veh is when you use a rental veh.So if you drive another persons car there coverage on the veh is what would pay for damages.
You don't have to add him. Your car is still covered if he borrows your car. You Insurance carrier would be first in line to cover if anything happens, that is if it is his fault. If it is the other persons fault then everything would go to their insurance company.
