Credit Check for Auto Insurance?

Question:
Are there ANY auto insurance companies out there that don't pull your credit to base your quote from? ---OR---

Is it possible to call your own insurance company that you have been with for 8 years and ask them to lower your rates? No accidents, tickets, anything in 5 years..

Answer:
Last I heard, Leader Insurance will write you an auto policy without doing a credit check - however, you get the absolute highest rates they have, like people in the under 200 credit score group.

That's the only one I know.

You will have much better luck calling your AGENT and asking them how you can lower your rates. They should have a couple tricks up their sleeves, and might be able to shop around on your behalf, to get a better rate. If you don't have an agent, feel free to call the company, but you're not as likely to get as far.

What state do you live in?
Here are some tips on saving money on your auto policy:

The state of CA prohibits insurance companies from using credit, let alone checking your credit, in order to buy insurance. It's considered DISCRIMINATION and it's the only state in the union that actually considers this discrimination.

That said.depending on your state determines whether credit is used. The insurance companies do not look at your credit score, they look at your "insurance score," which is different. This score "determines" how much of a risk you are. (Apparently, some idiots out there think that if you have bad credit you're gonna go out & commit insurance fraud--I professionally and personally disagree with this, as I've worked with MANY people with steller credit and they just don't know how to drive period.)

You're best bet is to call around and get different quotes and go with whatever company suites your needs. But keep in mind, the cheapest isn't the best, and the most expensive isn't either.
