Building homes to sell. Any advice on getting started?

Question:
Planning on building homes to sell. The homes will be built on lots we currently own and most work will be done ourselfes.

What are some things to keep in mind when starting a business like this?

Is it worth the extra money in materials to build bigger for a bigger resale?

Is there any good building software out there?

Answer:
build to code, use quality materials, take photo's of your work, especially prior to enclosing the framing, plumbing, etc. build one, sell it and then build the next one. build different sizes and styles to stay away from the cookie cutter approach.
