Privacy issue on co signing a loan?

Question:
I recently co signed a loan for a relative to attend a private beauty college in Colorado, since signing the loan like most family financial help, the relative has stopped communicating with me. I am not complaining about paying the loan if that happens.my question is this..I did not obtain a copy of the loan when I signed it and now the beauty school says they cannot release a copy of what I signed due to privacy issues..I would like to know if anyone has expert knowledge in this area? I feel since I read it before I signed it I see no reason why I should not be able to get a copy of the agreement. Im searching online for more information. Thanks

Answer:
I don't know of any privacy rights that apply to such a thing. Sounds like they are just being over-protective of their students.

But in the event you get stuck with the payments, you do have the right to demand debt validation, and they must supply you with copies of the contract. That is guaranteed in your Fair Debt Collections Act.
