Question:
Okay this is the situation, my husband is a disable veteran. When I say disabled, I mean 100% service connected from the military and the VA has labeled him unemployable. About 8-9 months ago, he wanted to be busy so he enrolled in Axia College (its the sister school of University of Phoenix - you do all the classes online). He made sure to finish all the classes he started, but had to quit due to medical reasons. As it stands now, he will never be able to attend school again for med. reasons. The school (for some reason) had to give back the unused student loan to citibank, but now the school wants that money.. even though it wasn't used to attend classes. It totals like $1000, but my husband lives on a small compensation payment from the va.. he can't work, so that's all he gets. Is their a wavier or some way to fight this bill because of his medical conditions? Any information on this would be helpful. Thanks!
Answer:
I would strongly suggest that you check with VA.
You need to work with the Business Office and the Financial Aid Office of Axia College to resolve this issue. Federal Financial Aid regulations require that if a student withdraws, even due to medical reasons, that a refund calculation be done and any unused funds must be returned to the bank. Axia College may be willing to grant an adjustment to your bill due to the medical issues, but you need to work with their offices.
