Question for accountants? Hi I'm a accounting student at a community college and I am being offered an?


Question:
opportunity to take part in a coop program with the IRS. Here's the problem. lol. I have a undergraduate degree in liberal arts and have been taking night classes to gain some accounting background, anyways it was my plan to apply to some graduate schools, but I can't find any that offer coop programs and I really want to get my career started and gain some experience. So here are my two options. I can stay at the community college and complete my accounting degree which will be an associate of applied science degree. Graduates should qualify for a variety of beginning accounting positions such as accounting clerk, junior accounting technician, general tax preparer and bookkeeper. So, if I stay their I'm probably not going to be able to get a good job straight out of school but I will have the opportunity to work with the IRS for two years (which I'm really excited about and want to do).

Answer:
Take the IRS internship. Get as much experience as you can on computers and computer databases. Study programming or databases in graduate school after you've cut your teeth on them.

Don't get a liberal arts master's degree.
