Question: I have a difficult time understanding why so many Americans don't think the national debt is a problem. What can we do to free ourselves from this enourmous debt that is now $8.5 Trillion.

Couldn't agree with you more. As an independent conservative, I'm very disappointed with the President and Congress for doing almost nothing to tackle the problem of the national debt.
There is no reason, unless we are involved in a declared war, for the US government to run a deficit.
