Do bosses usually turn lazy when they have somebody doing almost ALL their work?

Yeah I had one of those bosses before. I was hired to answer the phones, set appointments, and do some computer work. He started having his wife drop off his kid while she went to work out, get her hair done and relax! The final straw was when he told me to clean the toilet (all male office and I was the only female - Gross!), I refused, found a much better job and quit - he tried to beg me to stay but I didn't.
They will not stop until you stop them. Don't be surprised if she asks you to wipe her butt one day.

I can relate. Oh, can I relate. All you can do is take pride in your work and know that all the "extra" work you are doing will at least be job security. It does you no good to judge her actions or be upset by them. It will become obvious soon enough who is really doing all the work. If she is the head of the company, then maybe you can re-negotiate your salary with her given that your job duties encompass so much more than originally agreed upon. If she has a negative reaction, keep your eye out for another job where your hard work, intelligence, commitment and talent will be recognized and rewarded. Good luck to you.
sometimes people tend to take advantage if they think they can get away with it. If you think about it, if you had somebody doing your shopping, getting coffee and watching your kids and you paid them th esame you would a bookeeper would you not take advantage. Unfortunately it is up to you to stand up to yourself. You will have to calmly explain that you feel that your responsibilites have doubled/trebled yet your salary hasn't and you think that she needs to get a babysitter or something. You will just have to stand up forself, unfortunately in life people take advantage.
I have found the best way to get what you want from your employer is to ask. If you seek more money, ask! If you need more help from her or an assistant, ask!
I admire a person that can do there job above and beyond the call of duty, but the double edge sword to that is putting yourself in a position where you are overlooked. As competitive as any workplace is these days, you have to make yourself indespensible. In otherwords, if you left it would probrably take here another year or two just to find someone that can do half the jobs you do, (especially watching her kids) so voice your needs or concerns. A good way to find out how valueble you are to any company is to make them believe you have a better offer without saying that you do. Never make you boss believe their company is the best you can do, they will walk all over you. Di you know, most companies no matter how small hate high turn-around of employees. A great company values loyalty; you proved your now make her prove hers!
