Can anyone tell me?
Answer:
Sole proprietor is saying that you are the only (owner operator) of a biz, you can go to IRS.gov and get a federal biz number under your name and ssn for a sole prop. and aslo check your state website for a retail or wholesale license and if its needed, also check you town and county. To be totaly leagal for all the above, depending on is you are retail wholesale or service oriented it will cost between 0-250.00 for all the licenses
need to apply for a "d.b.a" or doing business as name with the city, county or state. usually can be done for less than $20. licensing depends on what type of business you are opening... electricians, pest control, etc. all have different licensing requirements. yours will probably be based upon your endeavor. when you file your taxes they are based off of your records - just make sure you keep them accurately. good luck... i own a business on the side and i love being my own boss.
After you have chosen a name for your business, you will need to go to your local courthouse (county court clerk - is where ours is done) and get a business license then you will need to call the irs and ask them what you will need to do to get your EIN and FIN (federal identification number.)
I think this is all you will need to do, as my husband took care of all of this for our business.
Good luck
