EA vs. CPA?
Question:
Based on my limited knowledge, I feel like I should go for CPA and not even bother with EA because I don't see many people with EA. Many successful accountants I know usually have CPA license, and hardly anyone has EA.
1. How much is EA license valued in the accounting/tax field?
2. How does it compare to CPA license?
3. Should I go for both or just CPA?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
CPEA is goal
I currently work for one of the big 4. My firm (and I believe the other big 4) all require that you have your CPA for any promotions above senior level.
Congrads, I graduated with an Accounting degree a few years ago, after I graduated I thought why waist the extra time to study for the CPA exam. I though pursuit law school and call it a day. Little did I know at the time, if I had my CPA certification my Workplace Value would increase by over 45%.
I know you have a great deal to think about, having a vehicle that could take you down either road. The best advise I could say to you is to follow your passion, once you find your passion you will have success. To answer your qustion about comparing the two, in the accounting profession and CPA is the top and all other licenses follow. As a matter a fact my aunt was telling me back when she took her CPA exam and passed, only 25% of the applicants pass the first time. The other certifications like CMA's, CIA's and EA's came along later to help them out
If you want to pursue accounting, you need to get your CPA. Your opportunities for promotion and raises will be limited if you don't have it. Work for an accounting firm before getting a government job. Better pay and experience.
