Career decision (in the making)?
Question:
Basically, I've got it narrowed down to Criminal Justice and Journalism.
Criminal Justice I like because I have a strong sense of justice. I would like to be a Bail Enforcement Agent, since I could easily travel well with that job and I love traveling.
But I also have a passion for writing, and Journalism would allow me to write to bring in a constant flow of income while I work on novel projects.
Any advice on which path I should take? They're both equally appealing to me. One idea I had was taking both, then at the end of the first semester stick with which one I liked best.
Answer:
Which one do you have the bigger passion for? You mention traveling as a bail enforcement agent, but you could also travel extensively as a journalist. I think journalism has the better career path - you could write for a major newspaper or magazine. You would be the journalist with a strong sense of justice. :-)
Neither of these career paths will pay very well. Not that I'm discuraging you. Most journalists start making less than the average school teacher.
I would think that your opportunities in criminal justice would be greater. With an undergraduate degree, you could work as a paralegal, parole or probation officer. You could complete a training course and become a police officer or security guard, or you could go for a graduate degree and do administration or teaching.
