Can you report a problem to Human Resources with out having to give your name?

I have always been told to things about Human Resources: 1. If you file a report about your boss, you are next to get fired. 2. Human Resources can't help what they don't know, so I have to come out with it, then sit in a long battle at a table facing my boss.
Right now this is not my problem. should I wait until it is and how should I approach this matter?

You should be able to report issues to HR without fear of retribution. You shuld also be able to be anonymous when you do this. If this is not the case, if reporting something to HR gets you fired, that is considered a hostile work environment, and harrassement laws were put in place to protect you from this. If you can'tm trust HR, I think you need to get a lawyer, because you work in a hostile work environment and this is ILLEGAL.
Your HR rep should not have a problem with keeping your compaint confidential.
sounds like a place I worked in, I reported it to HR and I was fired. It was the BOSS -as in owner of the company...
Most larger companies have an ethics hotline, run by a third party where you can call and report issues.
If yours is a smaller company, you might want to weigh the benefits of working there against the office politics.
Sounds like you're in tough position. If you feel strongly enough about your concerns, it should be made known to the company.
