You will not be able to get a work visa to the USA to work in human resources, finance, marketing, or management. We have plenty of those people, thank you very much. To get a work visa, you will need a degree in something that not enough Americans study. Computer Science or Engineering are basically the fields of study that will get you a visa.
Economics are so damned screwed up over here right now, I'd wait on that until we can fix a few things.
Online courses do count in the "real" world, but generally do not carry the same weight as courses from an accredited university with an actual campus. In terms of learning, I think it is an advantage to attend classes in a classroom, which I believe expedites the transfer of knowledge and enables students to more easily interact with professors and thier peers. Also, do not overlook the importance of the friends you meet in the classroom. One day one of these people may help you get a job.
