I am a UK citizen looking for work in IT in the USA I am not having much luck any suggestions?

Question:
i am looking for work in the states to be with my boyfriend. i have 3 years software testing experience but although applying for jobs am not having much luck. I understand the Visa situation but can anyone give me any suggestions?

Answer:
I am MCSE A+ certified and live in Canada, and the States is hard to get access to, have you considered Canada, we have a shortage of IT specialists, and with being from the UK immigration issues are less complicated.

And once here the access to agencys can be easier, the biggest issue I have found is the security clearance, and
with the latest terrorist problems, they are very particular.

Dell Canada, ATI and IBM are good bets if your interested, we have social health care, higher wages and a safer place to live, biggest draw to consider Canada
Career change
IT market within the USA is very tight. Many people have gone into other fields.
Depends on where you are looking. Try the west coast (California, Washington state)
That is surprising. Are you actually in the states now? I understand that you cannot apply for jobs if you are actually in the states, so that presents quite a problem. Do you have a post-graduate degree, that certainly helps?
Competition is fierce in that field, with a more than adequate amount of qualified personnel already there.

With only 3 years of experience, it may be hard to distinguish yourself from the multitudes, revealing you as a super-desireable expert.

However, if you are able to consider interning, it may be your way in.
come back home, and bring your boyfriend with you.
Are there any UK IT companies that have American offices and that you can convince you are the candidate they need in the American office? You will need to sell yourself not as the ideal candidate, but as the must have candidate and for whom there is no possible American replacement. In software testing you have a tough row. Try moving into software development.
try IBM, they are located all over the states. Another option is to get married, then you will get you're visa quicker!
You will probably have to wait until our economy gets better. It is hard for American citizens to get and keep jobs now. When Bush is out of office it may get better.
