Im deciding to embark on a career in human resources.?

Question:
I need interview tips. I already know the basics, such as dress code, how one should act and present oneself, researching the company beforehand...etc.

What I really want to know is are they're certain facts that I need at my fingertips for an interview for a HR position or are the interviews more on my personality and type of character. I know for an analyst position one should know the interest rate and have certain knowledge about accounting. I am an Econ major at NYU and I just want to be fully prepared for an interview for a HR position. Unfortunately the web doesn't have much tip on HR. I would like to hear from experienced HR professionals if possible. Thanks.

Answer:
Keep the following theme in mind:

"Past behaviour predicts the future behaviour"

To practice it, you neeed to probe and dig out his/her past performance about key attributes needed in the job.

Remember the following "magic word":

STAR: Situation, Task, Action Result.

Try asking about a SITUATION in his/her past job
Ask about his/her TASK in that situation
Ask what ACTION he/she took
Ask what was the Result of the action

Complete the STARs for all the key areas of the job e.g. Communication skills, negotiation skills etc. This predicts how he/she will perform in the job.

Best of Luck
There are resources on the web for your research...Society for Human Resources Management - SHRM , shrm.org, is probably the best place to start. Another web resource is HR.com. I recommend that you do a little research about the HR field as preparation for job application and interviews.
